Lost Skull ring
£695.00
The idea for what would become the Lost Skull Ring came from a portrait of Pope Alexander VII surrounded by different objects, one of which was a skull that, according to the history books, was actually made out of marble. That marble skull was lost for centuries, but it was later discovered in a German castle, and ‘the lost skull’ was exhibited along with the painting of Alexander VII at the Dresden State Art Collections in 2021.Making a silver skull ring representing a marble skull representing a real skull was something of a challenge, and the design features the whole skull, including the sides and back, but with a hole right through it. I carefully replicated the details of the real marble skull, but in the end I decided not to include the crack in the jaw, which I was worried might appear to look like a defect in the ring. The finished design weighs nearly 100 grams, two and a half times the weight of my Large Evil Skull Ring, making it the biggest and heaviest skull ring I have ever made. It is a spectacular piece.
